OUR NEW DRIVEWAY (June 2012)

VIEW FROM INSIDE THE GARAGE VIEW FROM THE GARDEN VIEW FROM THE STREET
These are photos of the old asphalt driveway that was probably put in when (or soon after) the house was built.
The first step was to remove the existing driveway down to bare dirt, level and ready for the concrete forms.
The forms are in and the rebar is in place. See the boards going down the middle? No concrete there- just dirt for some plants. That's why it's called a Hollywood driveway.
The concrete truck arrived at 7:00 AM. Why so early? Well, it was still cool at that time of the morning, and the workers had to get the wet concrete poured, leveled, and scored before it dried. Delaying until later in the day meant having to work faster. Also, we live on a pretty busy street and Saturday at 7:00 AM there is far less traffic than at 9:00 AM. At the end of the pour, the truck had to block most of one lane for several minutes. Several neighbors walked over to see what was making the racket.
After the frames were filled, the concrete had to leveled and smoothed. If you can see where the delivery pipe is in the photo on the right, you can imagine where the truck is parked - blocking one lane of our street.
After smoothing, the still damp concrete had to be scored to allow for contraction and expansion in hot and cold weather.

Pretty close to finished...

The forms were removed. We had some extra dirt and our contractor supplied more, and we filled in the gap in the middle, and then put in some plants. I'll take more photos when the plants fill in a bit.

Again - this is where we started....
And the plants have filled in nicely
